Since we’re somewhat back I’ve decided to expand The Rogues Gallery a bit. The sheer amount of concept art that goes into any gaming project is absolutely staggering, and given how gorgeous most of it is it’s an absolute shame that many are completely unaware of a lot of it. So we’ll be showcasing the concept art of some gaming titles from time to time, and I’ve decided to kick it off with the art of FINAL FANTASY XIII as I’m currently replaying it. This post really needs no introduction; watch above as Yoshitaka Amano, the man behind FINAL FANTASY‘s legendary art, illustrates some work for Child of Light.
Oh Rocksteady, you guys know how to make an entrance. After it was announced that Batman: Arkham Origins would not be developed by Rocksteady Studios, many speculated that perhaps the company had left Bats behind them. But with no new announcements from the studio and little hints here and there, opinion started to change to the idea that Rocksteady had abstained from doing Origins in order to develop a far larger Arkham title for next-gen consoles. That rumor turned out to be spot-on this morning as a trailer and a slew of information about the new title, Arkham Knight, hit the web. Hit the jump to check out the trailer and read on.
It’s really a shame FINAL FANTASY XV had to be announced so early. I know it was technically announced extremely late, as it’s been in development for almost a decade as FINAL FANTASY Versus XIII, but when you make as large of a splash as the title did last year when there’s still so much time to go in development things are going to get rough. As a result, fans have been clamoring for any and all bits of new media or news to fuel their beliefs that we could get the game either late this year or next year and frankly, the news has been a little dry. But now, to celebrate the PS4’s launch in Japan, there is a new trailer out for FINAL FANTASY XV and it looks utterly splendid. Hit the jump to check it out.
Ever since the announcement of Kingdom Hearts III, I’ve been pining hard for those lost adventures of yesteryear with Sora and Co. It seems like everyone else out there is feeling the same way as we’ve seen a lot of Kingdom Hearts related stories hit the web in recent months (no doubt due to the release of Kingdom Hearts 1.5). To help fill the void while we wait for Kingdom Hearts III to get a release date, Did You Know Gaming has released a video detailing some little-known facts about what went on behind the scenes during the development of the original Kingdom Hearts. Hit the jump to check it out, there’s some cool stuff in there.
The disdain for Square-Enix’s first next-gen entry into the FINAL FANTASY franchise is fairly obvious, especially amongst die-hard FINAL FANTASY fans, which is why it has always baffled me that the company continues to keep pushing FINAL FANTASY XIII onto the public. First there was a sequel nobody wanted (which was actually pretty damn good, more than it had any right to be), then a tie-in to the stellar FINAL FANTASY XIV through in-game events. Square is trying hard to get the public to like Lightning as much as they do and their latest attempt is a third entry in the saga, Lightning Returns: FINAL FANTASY XIII, starring the aforementioned heroine and no one else.
With the release of Lightning Returns drawing near, Square-Enix has put out a video recapping the story so far in a retro style that harkens back to the series’ glory days on the Super Nintendo. Hit the jump to check it out.
